The charter in the Canary Islands

The rental sector of boats or charter boat has a number of peculiarities. Some are common regardless of the area where you rent the boat, but it is also true that there are certain local customs. In the Canary Islands in general and specifically in Lanzarote, although
we have a privileged area to navigate by both climate and wind conditions, the market is not as developed as in other areas such as
Balearic. This also entails certain advantages for those who visit us!! We can say that the coast here is harder to anchor as it is a cut-to-peak coast and there is often too many shelters in the lee of the wind and sea.

In the Balearic Islands, for example, we are used to assist in the summer to a real spectacle every Saturday in the pontoons of the
charter companies when they fill up for check-in. hese boats and their crews once made the boarding process, normally
disappear from the port until the following Friday afternoon when they have to return to port. During the stay, most of their time will be spent at anchor in different coves and usually few different ports, one hand due to the goodness of their moorings and on the other to the inaccessibility of ports and marinas, both because of price and availability.

In Lanzarote specifically, we can ensure that unlike the rest of the Canary Islands, we have numerous anchorages and a size of island that allows you to quickly go the few miles that run from east to west depending on the weather. The ports here are no problem and will always have a warm coat to protect us at a very reasonable price. Lanzarote has modern ports and offer a quality of service that have nothing to envy to other areas such as the Mediterranean. The voyages may be a few miles allowing to anchor in areas such as Papagayo, Fuerteventura, Lobos Island and La Graciosa Island, declared a Natural Park.

Modern marinas exist such as Marina Rubicón in Playa Blanca, Puerto Calero east of the island, or the recently inaugurated Marina Lanzarote in Arrecife.

Sailing in the Atlantic requires a certain aptitude and demand, but we quickly get hooked. The sine and wave height may initially impress, but we discover their nobility as soon as we trim our sails and pace our hull to the rhythm of the trade winds.

We have summarized here some of the differences that we find when we rent a sailboat or a catamaran in Lanzarote :

–          There is no obligation to book full weeks in summer.

–          The price of the ports and Marinas is much lower. For example we can say that a 50-foot sailboat in Formentera in July or August can cost about 280 € / day, while in Lanzarote the price would be 60 €.

–          There are no availability problems in ports and marinas. We can call at any port without the fear of being told that they are complete.

–            Although the fleet supply is lower, there are more and more companies like Lanzarote Yacht Charter which combine an interesting offer and especially of high quality where you can find catamarans, sailboats of different lengths, motor, RIBs, etc.

–            The Atlantic is a much more predictable sea where winds are more constant than in the Mediterranean, where in the same day we can find different roles.

–            Lanzarote like the rest of the Canary Islands has a temperate climate that allows you to navigate all year round. In the Mediterranean, most rentals occur during the summer months.

–            The island has excellent air communications, with daily connections to most European capitals.

–            In the Balearic Islands, it is very frequent to visit several islands during a typical one-week charter, while the inter-canary island tourism has yet to be developed soon.

–            The rental prices of boats in Lanzarote are significantly lower than those found in other areas of the Mediterranean.

–            Navigational services are up to any coastal port.

–         In Lanzarote there is a very interesting tourist offer on the coast and in the interior, with ingredients from nature, culture, gastronomy and sports that make the nautical tourism have a great potential to grow in the next few years.
