The prestigious Billfish Report has released its Top Ten Billfisheries of the year award 2014, placing the Canary Islands in third place for best place to catch a Blue Marlin over 500lbs in the world. The Billfish Report also mentions the nice season length ,often lasting as long as six months , they also talk about the quality White Marlin fishing there but there are no reports, possibily due to the boats specifically targeting Blue Marlin.
As from June Marlin fishing are showing up around the Canary Islands and peak activity is during September, October and November. You don´t have to travel to remote destinations , Europe has a magnificent fleet of boats with the best tackle, no money exchange issues , totally safe, health care and luxury accomadation , its paradise for this kind of sport fishing. Just two hours from Madrid, less than four from London, Paris , Berlin and 5 from Moscow.
The Billfish report mentions sightings and contacts with “Granders” , 1000lbs + fish and the season highlight being a 12-7 on Blue Marlin in one day.
